The past two weeks have been pretty much non-stop work but I did get a few pictures.
| These two pictures were taken from near our yard. For once, I remembered to look out at the sunset. |
| We had about eight school visits to set up math clubs at various schools. Here we are at Ebusakami Girls Secondary School. Laetitia and Mike are third year university math majors who help out with our initiatives. |
| One of the problems given the students was to determine the number of squares in a 5x5 grid (no, it's not 25!), use a systematic method and then be able to calculate the number of squares in a much larger grid. |
| We have a lot of noisy chickens in our yard although I don't know what happens with the eggs!! |
| Our bedroom |
| Bathroom-we don't have to go outside like we did at school! |
| A ping pong table fills the living room. No-one ever plays but many people use its surface for work every day. |
| Joyce washes our clothes each week and cleans the house. I don't think my back could take this!! |
| Monkeys are all over our yard. They chase the chickens as well as each other. They are fun to watch, although they can make a mess.. |
| Another visit to Kiboko Bay-this time just for a meeting although I did insist we stop the meeting for a few minutes to go out on the dock and admire the view. This is Zach, who works with us. A super nice guy, great teacher and great with teenagers. |
| Some of the many mathematicians-Mel, Danny, Zach, Danny and David. |
| I am teaching Life Skills to Form 2 (10th grade) girls at Bishop Abiero. This was our first session and I think it's going to be a lot of fun. High on the list of topics they want to discuss are relationships and sex. |
| Another reunion with Form 4 girls at Bishop Abiero |
| Form 4 Girls. Maureen is the one squatting in the right front. She always gets the top overall grades. |
| Jedidah is the girl between us. She is a talented drummer and singer. |
| And this is Agnes who many of you have heard us talk about. Mel noticed her math skills and then I encouraged her in chemistry and biology and she has flourished. She even stood up to her parents and insisted on continuing to take physics instead of Christian religious education. We really hope she does well in her final exams/. |
| Math club at Ebusakami |
| Thomas who also works with us and is a math professor at Maseno University. Like Zach, a super nice guy and excellent teacher. |
| Mel explaining the 24 Game during math club. Thank you Jill Murray for sharing this game with us! |
| And more monkeys!!!! |
