Ethosha Park

We rented a car in Windhoek and drove to Etosha National Park in Namibia. Although we had been on a lot of safaris in Kenya, we wanted to see this park as it sounded quite different from what we had experienced before. The area is extremely arid so the animals tend to congregate at the water holes. Most of the park is a giant salt pan. We stayed the first night in a cabin at Okaukuego which had its own water hole. We sat on benches overlooking the water hole at sunset, late at night and again at dawn to see the numerous animals which congregated there.
The next day we drove around the park and saw more animals and spent the night at an adorable little cabin just outside the park.

This warthog sign and the ant hill and baboons below were seen on the way to the park.

A springbok-cute and delicious too!

Scenes at the water hole. this old elephant had a few problems. See next few pictures.

The bull elephant above had found his own small water hole but when this female came by, he vacated the spot to make room for her.

A jackal

The bull elephant waited for the female and they went off together.

The rhinos came down to the water hole in the wee hours of the morning

Pictures from our secluded cabin/tent at Ethosha Village.  This was probably our favorite hotel where we stayed during the trip. We had kudu, impala and wildebeest for dinner.
