The Sand Dunes in Sossusvei

More dirt roads to Solitaire, a funky little town that looks like it belongs in the American Wild West, where we had delicious apple cake and shared the crumbs with the hundreds of lurking birds. then on to Agama River Camp where we had a cute little cabin, cooled off in the pool, watched the colors change as the sun set, chatted with two Italian guys who were the only other ones staying there and ate a delicious dinner.
The next morning we got up at 4:30, grabbed a couple of huge bagged breakfasts and drove over an hour to the famous sand dunes of Sussusvlei to see the sun rise over the dunes. The colors were gorgeous-red, yellow and orange- and completely changed once the sun came up further so our early rise was well worth it. It was a bit wild as the wind was fierce.
Then we had an extremely long 10 hour drive (with a flat tire thrown in) to Amanzi River Camp on the Orange River between Namibia and South Africa where we would kayak and camp for two days

In Kenya, we live about 1 km from the equator but we were still impressed by this sign.

A cute mongoose

Solitaire-Does this look like Route 66?

Alfred Hitchcock?

Our little cabin in the desert

These red dragonflies are all over Africa

A very refreshing pool in the Namibian Desert

The purple colors which emerged as the sun set were beautiful.

At Sussusvlei

I loved the contours in the sand made by the wind.

This is me.

Our shadows. We are squinting because of the sand storm.

I loved the patterns in the sand.

More road warning signs.

These huge nests are made by tiny weaver birds. They are good at communal living!

The Orange River

Acres and acres of grapes growing by the Orange River

Sadly, these shacks are where the workers live.
